Palliative Care

Palliative care is an approach to illness that focuses on alleviating symptoms and situations that detract from health. These things might include the stress of having multiple chronic illnesses, physical symptoms like pain or constipation, or psychological symptoms like emotional conflict, anxiety, depression or confusion. Sometimes, confusion lies in simply understanding one's chronic illnesses and how to proceed with making complicated treatment decisions. Palliative care also encompasses end of life care to ease the dying process. Palliative care training is included in geriatric medicine fellowships and also as a separate fellowship with its own certification.
