Acupuncture: Healing & Restoration

Picture
One method of approaching origins of disease is through traditional Chinese medicine.  In Chinese medicine, it is believed that energy or qi (chee) flows through predictable paths called meridians in the body.  Impaired flow of this energy can result in symptoms of disease such as pain, nausea, anxiety, headaches, and malaise among others.  Treatment by acupuncture serves to restore and balance the flow of energy through the body to relieve symptoms and restore health.  Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles at strategic points in the body.  It may include treating selected acupuncture points with heat (moxibustion), pressure(cupping), or electrical stimulation.  How acupuncture works is not completely understood. It is likely related to electromagnetic changes in human tissues and cells during ill health.   You can read more about acupuncture from one of the nation's leading medical centers, Mayo Clinic.

Getting To Know You
In order to determine where energy flow is obstructed in your body and plan treatment, the acupuncturist will ask detailed questions about your personality, likes, dislikes, and values.  There are specific Chinese medicine terms that define these traits and how they affect energy flow in the body.  Medical acupuncture instructor Joseph Helms M.D. characterizes these traits into biopsychotypes or personality types.  Your acupuncturist can use information about your biopsychotype and the symptoms you are having to make a treatment plan for you.  Before your acupuncture appointment, please complete Dr. Helms
questionnaire, and bring a copy of the results to your appointment.

Acupuncture Services are provided to practice members for $45 per session.  Non-members may request acupuncture service for $65 per session and will be scheduled if time allows.
